17/11/2011 - An Appeal for help from Kenya Wildlife Service By: Dominic Anyanga
Following the recent continuous invasion by hippos and hyenas, residents of Wawidhi and Onjiko locations in Nyando district are appealing to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to rescue them from the wild animals. These animals are destroying crops, causing sleepless nights, and endangering lives of Wawidhi and Onjiko residents especially school going children. They say, the animals have already interfered with their normal farming activities during the last two weeks of continuous rainfall. Famers no longer attend to their land in the morning, for fear of being attacked by wild animals. The fearful Nyando resident's urge the KWS to manage the wild animals for the purpose of promoting biodiversity before serious damage is seen or lives lost. ********* 17/11/2011 - Convene LASDAP Meeting or else... By: Dominic Anyanga Center for literacy and community development, a local NGO, today convened a meeting at Ahero town to collect at least a thousand signatures in a bid to compel Ahero town council to urgently call for LASDAP consultative meeting. The NGO is bringing on board all stakeholders, and the community at large to actively participate in preparing and implementing all LATF funded projects. The NGO through its executive director Fred Ngesso claims that the process has delayed denying the public justice. He said "no single meeting has been called for two consecutive years. Yet, LATF has been received and used on non priority projects contracted to local councilors". Ngesso and his team further called for cooperation from the council saying his group will soon embark on serious and thorough social audit on all LATF and kazi kwa vijana funds. The funds in question were received by the local authority during the financial years 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12. This team wants to ascertain misappropriation after which they will seek legal redress for public accountability and good governance to be seen in our systems. The variety of life on Earth, its biological diversity is commonly referred to as biodiversity.ls now want medical services minister to intervene by either closing the facility or improve the mess before more lives are lost.
